Job Application Cheat Sheet
Instead of a CV/Resume, we want to learn about you through a well written cover letter. Through this letter we are interested in learning about your skills, your experience, your enthusiasm, your interests and your personality — and determine if you are a good match for our team. It is important that your letter is informative and serves the (above) purpose. To that end, here are some pointers for you.
Be
- Clear. In your introduction, your expectations and what value your bring to the table. Clarity is a pre-requisite for effective communication.
- Honest. Keep it real and don’t project who you aren’t.
- Relevant. Mould your letter for the specific job role.
- Interesting. Express how you are different than your peers.
- Revealing. Reveal your likes, dislikes, opinions and points of view.
- Concise. Stay within a 5 – 7 min reading time.
Avoid
- Non-Personalised Cover Letter. Your letter should speak to Miranj, and help us understand how well you align to the specific job opening.
- Adjectives and Descriptions. Demonstrate your performance (through projects, code-bases, live websites, etc.), rather than describing yourself in words.
- Copy-Pasting Your CV/Resume. A laundry list of past jobs/educations doesn’t mean much. If your letter doesn’t reveal your personality or arouse our curiosity in you, we will give it a skip.
- Typos and Grammatical Errors. Your attention to detail needs to match ours.
- Using AI Tools. We’re not hiring Prompt Engineers.
