Myanmar Institute of Information Technology

Myanmar Institute of Information Technology (MIIT) is a technical institute located in Mandalay, Myanmar and currently offers undergraduate programmes in Computer Science & Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering. It is a joint venture in the space of higher education between the Indian and the Myanmar governments. The International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT‑B) acts as the mentor institution for MIIT and helps execute the academic functions of MIIT.

The MIIT website needed a complete content, design and technology overhaul. We assessed their needs through their briefs, references and numerous Skype calls. Based on the institute’s content needs and projects constraints we employed two distinct content modelling strategies to efficiently compose and publish pages. In the first one, we identified and defined domain-specific content types with a well-defined structure, narrative and relations (e.g. Courses, Programmes, Departments, People, Events, etc.). The second one used a page builder approach which enabled the composition of freeform pages using smaller modules. The clients were extended complete control of the hierarchy of pages and sections ensuring that the sitemap isn’t locked down to a rigid structure.

The project demanded keeping two key Burmese user considerations in mind — high mobile usage and use of Burmese language. The website was designed mobile-first with automated image resizing and optimisation so that mobile users are served smaller images for a fast browsing experience. It also completely supports multi-lingual content in both English and Burmese languages.

We collaborated with Hamsa Ganesh for the visual design of the website. The entire project was executed remotely from New Delhi with the clients located in Mandalay, Myanmar and designer located in Pune. The project was built on Craft CMS.
