MenEngage Alliance
MenEngage Alliance is a global network of non-profit organisations spanning across 5 continents that work with men and boys towards gender rights and gender justice for all.
Before Miranj entered the ring, MenEngage had begun working with our friend (and collaborator) Hamsa Ganesh on a new microsite design (still under wraps). Alongside the development of this microsite, they were also looking at a larger-scale extension that would overcome several technical, design, and structural challenges with their primary organisation website. And that’s when Miranj was brought in.
Strategy and Scoping
Miranj was first tasked to conduct a strategy and scoping workshop. During this engagement, we interacted with multiple stakeholders and decision-makers within the organisation to shape the website’s overall architecture. The workshop was an opportunity to step outside the existing website and reimagine a site that aligns with the organisation’s current and future needs. This included drawing up a new sitemap, identifying content types and content models, capturing the design expectation for both the primary website and the upcoming microsite. The system design envisioned content/resource sharing between the two sites and offered both sites in multiple languages for accessibility across the MenEngage network. We also delved deep into establishing new workflows for memberships and events, as well as potential integrations with their Membership Management System. The workshop ended with drawing up a multi-phased execution plan.
Execution
Post-workshop, the first phase of the project was commissioned for execution. Based on the scope and plan established in the workshop, Hamsa undertook visual design of the key templates, while Miranj commenced the project development using Craft CMS. The development journey was charted out over 4 stages, keeping in mind MenEngage’s organisational priorities (and internal roll-out requirements). As a final step, Miranj executed a programmatic data migration of all stories and resources from their old WordPress website into the new CMS.
Outcome
The final website rolled out a fresh homepage design with two entirely new lenses for browsing the website information: Approaches and Work Areas. The members directory, events, stories and resources each have detailed filtering systems to narrow down to specific items. Every network page and member page automatically collates the related resources, stories and events. The website is offered in three languages: English, French, and Spanish.
The MenEngage website revamp (and the multi-phase plan) has established a digital foundation for the next decade of their impactful work.
